Ozone Little Devil 6m

The first thing you notice when you unpack this kite from its black drawstring bag is the

quality of the kite. The stitching in particular is all reinforced and the quality of the lines and handles is excellent. LD kites may not be the most powerful kites you can buy but they have to be one of the best looking in flight.. The 6m has about a four meter wingspan and in white and blue looks very good in the sky. There is not a massive amount of overhead lift but when you drop the kite through the wind window there is plenty of pull. For the lighter flyer the kite is very manageable but care has to be taken when the wind picks up because this kite does have the ability to create lift.. In light winds the kite still fly’s very well. You can use it as a very large power kite and it is fairly agile to. The pressure needed to turn the kite on the brakes is also very light and this was one of the most popular bigger kites flown by the ladies in the group due to this reason. Flying the LD on a bar was also very easy and easy to set up. It was rigged with a three line set up, the third line being a safety and reverse launch device. Out of all the bigger 4m+ kites that we use in the club this 6m LD was without doubt the most popular. Maybe it was because it looks very impressive in flight or maybe it was due to it being very predictable in flight and not being in any way violent like a Flexifoil Blade. This is a great buggy kite. This kite was also used in the winter months on lighter wind days. You never had to worry that the stitching was going to come undone or the lines or handles fail. It was also and very easy to clean and the canopy if it did get stained cleaned up very easily. The only problem we ever had with the LD was with a safety issue. When the wind picked up a bit, strong enough to get a good speed from the buggy the kite could not be de-powered fully by deploying a safety. A wrist leash was setup, attached to both the brake lines. When it was used, the brake lines pulled, the kite instead of reversing down without power would hang but still pull, a bit like a parachute. We discovered that the Ozone handle leader lines are to short and do not have enough length to allow the canopy to collapse. Once the leader lines were doubled in length the safety worked fine.

Little Devil 3m

This has got to be one of the easiest and best well mannered kites you can buy. Stable, forgiving, well designed, excellent construction and bags of power. It is very similar in flight to the 3m PKD Buster but slightly slower through the air. It is a great beginners kite. The 4.5m is one step up in terms of power and you do notice the difference especially in the buggy. The 3m needs a good wind to pull hard and it is much more difficult to keep the speed up in the buggy. The 4.5 does not have this problem and the power is very smooth and progressive. I feel the 4.5m has the best speed /power ratio for traction activities. The 3m is a great introduction to power kiting in average winds. The 6m is responsive and powerful but care needs to be taken as the wind picks up. The 4.5m is perfect as a traction engine. The problem with Little Devils is that no one kite covers the entire wind range. You need to own all of them, which would be very expensive.

There has always been a healthy competition between Ozone and Flexifoil and whenever you ask the question, “which is best Ozone Little Devil or Flexifoil Blade?”, the answer

always promotes a discussion. Blades are very good kites and there is no disputing that and you could argue that there is really no other kite on the market that competes with the Blade in terms of static overhead lift. Is the LD better. For jumping probably not but as a buggy kite and all round fun kite yes. Flying a Blade especially in a stronger wind needs a great deal of skill and I would not really say it is a beginners kite due to that lift. Having the ability to park the kite overhead and take a rest when flying can be a bonus when you are learning. The Blade is pulling everywhere in the wind window. Parking any kite overhead and resting is not a good idea and the only place the kite should really be if you are taking a brake is on the ground, however, having a kite that does not pull when overhead can be advantageous. The Little Devil is more of a beginners kite but that is not to say it can not be used by more experienced flyers. It is a great buggy engine and it would be my choice over a Blade any day for this activity. The LD has unique characteristics that set it aside from other kites and since its introduction many have tried to emulate. All Little Devil kites are great and we would recommend these kites to anyone. They are stable, forgiving, powerful but without that worrying overhead lift, and the quality is unsurpassed.
